MYOFASCIAL RELEASE
A blend of stretching and massage, myofascial release therapy works directly on correcting “snags” in the Connective Tissue (CT) or fascia of the body. CT/fascia is the most abundant type of tissue in the body, and therefore plays a very important role in postural alignment and the overall state of your tissue.
Simply put, CT is like the saran wrap of the body. It bundles muscle cells together to create a muscle belly, it then connects the muscle to the bone via the ligaments (a type of CT), and bone to bone via tendons (a type of CT).
Because the CT/fascia is so prevalent and is connected throughout the body, a “snag” in one location can cause pain and discomfort in another. An easy visual you can use to understand this concept is to take your shirt and pull it (as if it were snagged), you will notice that the “snag” will create a line of tension throughout the rest of the shirt.
The goal of Myofascial Release is to address these “snags” with gentle sustained stretching. The technique is usually done without oil and the pace of a session is very slow and gradual. It is an especially useful technique in treating chronic pain, muscular and joint injuries, postural imbalances, and general tension in addition to being very relaxing. By complementing the body's natural healing processes, Myofascial Release is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction, including (but not limited to):
- Migraine Headaches
- Chronic Neck and Back Pain
- Motor-Coordination Impairments
- Central Nervous System Disorders
- Orthopedic Problems
- Scoliosis
- Chronic Fatigue
- Depression
- Stress and Tension-Related Problems
- Fibromyalgia and other Connective-Tissue Disorders
- Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome (TMJ)
- Neurovascular or Immune Disorders
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
- Post-Surgical Dysfunction

DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE
This is the type of massage people often associate with massage. This modality deeply engages with the musculature of the body with the goal of assisting in the loosening of tight muscles and clearing adhesions, or “knots” from the muscles. This type of massage can be somewhat uncomfortable particularly when dealing with stubborn adhesions that have built up over time and require skill and hard work to remove.
Deep Tissue massage is particularly good for people who have injuries due to repetitive movements or holding patterns (like sitting at a computer for 10 hours a day). It is also great for athletic people. Swedish deep tissue is done with the recipient unclothed and draped with a sheet.
SWEDISH RELAXATION MASSAGE
This type of massage focuses on a gentler approach to the body. Relaxation massage uses cream or massage oil in combination with fluid and gliding strokes that lull the recipient into a deeply relaxed state. This modality is a wonderful way to clear those daily stresses that build up day-to-day. Swedish Relaxation is done with the recipient unclothed and draped with a sheet.
TMJ/TMD TREATMENT
Tempomandibular Joint/Tempomandibular Dysfunction is a condition that affects the joint which connects your lower jaw to your head. The joint itself is located right in front of the ear. Dysfunction in this joint can lead to discomfort in the entire head. If you clench or grind your teeth and/or if your jaw clicks when you open and close it and/or if you suffer from headaches regularly, it is likely that you have TMD. The massage treatment for TMD usually focuses only on the head, neck and shoulders. It also includes some intra-oral work where the practitioner, wearing gloves, massages the muscles inside the mouth which contribute to this dysfunction. TMJ/TMD treatment can be intense but it is incredibly beneficial if you suffer from this dysfunction.
